Ron grew up in San Jose, graduated from the oldest high school in California, San Jose High, and followed the San Jose path attending San Jose State College. There he starred on the football team. Ron eventually joined the San Jose YMCA and played handball with that same football mentality.

He quickly moved up to the open level and for three years, with his partner Marty Goffstein, totally dominated both Northern and Southern California handball. His greatest victory was winning the USHA masters national championships in Coral Gables, Florida, playing the right side. He is one of the strongest right side players to play the game.

Ron is best known for his tremendous strength, focus, and toughness.
