Cherylann was first exposed to handball during her Sacramento State College days in 1979 while working part time at the Sacramento Handball/Racquetball Club. She started playing handball with the local guys until she entered her first tournament in 1981 at the Sacramento Open Tournament. She was shocked to find thirteen other women entered in the draw.

From her early years with tennis, she learned the importance of sports organizing associations, and the need to support them. Thus, she started getting involved in handball, organizing activities at the local level. She was very instrumental in organizing all the Sacramento Tournaments and also served as Women's Coordinator, helped organize youth camps and served on the NCHA board. She was elected USHA president and served for two terms. Her handball support has spanned over twenty years.

Congratulations on your induction into the Northern California Handball Hall of Fame!
